The Amazing Romans and the centimetre

We were learning about measurements today. We looked at where the words centi and milli come from and what they mean when you combine them, like centimetre for example. We made our own metre measuring tapes. What did we use our metre measuring tapes to measure? What else could we measure using our metre measuring tapes? We decided that metre measuring tapes were not accurate enough so we decided to use centimetres with our metres to fine-tune and make our measurements more precise. Remind me how many centimetres are there in a metre? What would you measure in centimetres? Would you measure the distance between your house and school in centimetres? Why or why not? Those Romans were just SO clever, but the cleverest Italians come from a special place called Cesinali, Avellino!

  1. We measured objects around the school, we could also measure size of rooms in metres. There are 100cm in a metre. You could measure books in cms. I would not measure the distance to school in cms as it it too far and would take too long.

    1. I agree with you Ss if we did measure in centremetres it would be hard to measure in centremetres I would rather measure in metres than cm.
